Difference between running reports based off "survey responses" or "question responses"

Eileen Lawson Feb 23, 2013 11:09AM PST

I am wondering what the difference is between number of survey responses and question responses is? When I run a report I have always picked survey responses. But I do not understand the difference.

Hi Eileen,

Great question! The difference between using the "survey responses" vs. "survey questions" is how the percentages are calculated for each question in your survey. For example, if you have 440 completed surveys and you are using the "survey questions" method, the denominator will be 440. This sometimes will result in other than 100% for the question if you have branching or skip patterns or choose all that apply questions in your survey (or if you're including incomplete surveys within your report too). on the other hand, if you use "question response" method, the total of responses for each question will be the denominator resulting in 100% for each question's totals.

I hope this answered your question!

Thank you,

Morgan
